Lumiere were commisioned by integrated marketing firm ‘The Crocodile’ to build some animated intro sequences for a microsite they were developing.

The product, a visual case management software solution, is explained via 4 key messages. Speed, Agility, Precision, and Inteligence. To represent each message, Lumiere built and animated 4 animals that formed out of the pieces of a flow chart.

Using a combination of Softimage’s ICE, some custom scripts, and a little bit of magic dust, our animators brought these animals to life.

Lumiere were asked by Draft FCB to produce a looping animation for Nivea’s Q10 For Men.

The animation is designed to fit into a number of different formats, for various different digital outdoor screens around the country including London Underground and the big screen in Manchester City Center.

From this animation Lumiere were also asked to provide a number of Still’s for use in print and billboard advertising, including a front and back wrap design for ShortList magazine.

The challenge here was to create a bubble system that not only flowed convincingly, taking with it the colours from the packaging, but that also looped seemelessly back into itself. The problem was overcome using Softimage’s ICE system, a number of days in RnD, and a lot of Coffee.

Working under Damien Knowles (Wunderman) and Alex Smith’s (RSA) art direction, Lumiere set to work on creating a cg plasma ball to encapsulate the new Ford Focus.

Lumiere’s first challenge was to R&D the look and feel of the plasma lines and interaction points, tweaking and testing out different methods to bring it inline with Damien and Alex’s vision.

Working with the footage shot in Barcelona, Lumiere’s vfx team, including rotoscopers, trackers and compositors, seamlessly created and implemented a plasma ball that showed the interaction of the people and the waves of plasma energy. As this was filmed without motion control and “all-in-one shot”, the real challenge here was to incorporate all of the cg elements together perfectly into such an elaborate camera move.

Using Realflow, we simulated fluids at incredibly high fps to match the live action. It was very important that the fluids matched perfectly, so great care was taken to simulate the viscosity and gloopiness of the original.
